The winner is a local café in Linköping that not only serves local and organic quality food but also promotes culture and sustainable principles. An example of those ideals is that they have reached an agreement with a local supermarket that allows them to pick up the food that otherwise, even if it is still in good condition, would be wasted. With the saved food, they cook a "zero waste salad" and a "zero waste soup" which shows the effort they make to promote sustainable principles by both picking up the food and innovating the products in their daily recipes. Additionally, another illustration of their sustainability goals is that all the furniture in the café is secondhand which promotes the principle of a circular economy. Furthermore, they focus on vegetarian and vegan food on their menu and effectively work on avoiding food waste by preparing the majority of their food choices freshly and upon request. Therefore, the Environmental Company award 2019 goes to Babettes for showing that a café can do much more for sustainability besides the choice of food offered.
