Words from the PresidentWe have all had a rather different year in terms of, well pretty much everything! Despite the challenges a global pandemic has put on us, I am still proud of all the things we accomplished last year. In the face of adversity, I have witnessed our active members go on with a positive attitude and great creativity, and managed to pull off many amazing events throughout the year! The quest for sustainable development continues and in times of disruption we also have the opportunity to pause, breath, reflect, enjoy and celebrate what is good and improve what can be done better. What can you do in your life to make the world a little better? To enjoy and celebrate the end of 2020, here are some highlights from what was. - Filip Sehlin, Navitas President 20/21 Navitas Happenings 2020Celebration Despite 2020 being 2020, it has been a year of celebration for Navitas as we started off the year with the celebration of our 10 years of existence with events and dinner party. Nevertheless, we also got to finish of the year with LiU Student secondhands first year celebration. The committee ensure that LiU students have a smart and easy solution to sell, buy and recycle furniture and during the year they have launched a new website and arranged transportation days and digital upcycling workshops. And, as always we celebrate our cooperation partners Tekniska Verken and Ebbepark, for their contribution to our association and sustainable actions and contributions. The spring semester Before COVID-19 hit and much, such as the Valborg trip to Berlin, was cancelled or revised, number of webinars about Biological diversity and Agenda 2030, LiUs environment strategist Anna Gustafsson and Environmental Technology with Mats Eklund. The fall semester When we came back from the summer break we had a late summer Movie quiz at KK and Swapping day, before going more or less fully digital and next level social distancing again. Later in November The (digital) Global Weeks was held. The weeks had environment and health as a theme and included workshops, panel discussion about food waste, trash walk, and webinars about sustainable fashion, Linköping municipality, how to handle the climate change, workout and health and energy solutions. In December we learned about sustainable tourism with Reform Travel and Navitas instagram spread sustainable insporation in the christmas calendar. LiU's Vice-Chancellor says to further integrate sustainability at LiU “In summary, I want to work towards making sustainable development a natural part of the university’s activities, so that we can prepare students for their future professional life, and that our researchers can compete for funding. LiU can, together with others, take a leading role in the fundamental transformation of society that Agenda 2030 will involve”, says Vice-chancellor Jan-Ingvar Jönsson according to the article “LiU is helping to build a sustainable society” written by Lennart Falklöf, November 10th 2020. Christmas Calendar on Instagram Christmas is just around the corner and Navitas are excited to announce that we are releasing a Christmas calendar on our Instagram page @navitas.se, beginning on December 1st to Christmas eve, December 24th. Twenty four days of surprises and inspiring tips and tricks that you do not want to miss out on! From us all to all of you - Merry Christmas! LiU Student Secondhand celebrates one year The 4th of December LSSh is turning one year and we would like to invite you to our anniversary celebration!! Navitas is a part of the Swedish Youth Network for Biodiversity, which connects organisations which works with climate and nature questions to put extra light on biodiversity. Except connecting organisations for dialogs and collaboration, they make debate articles, events and push for political actions for biodiversity. Here is the latest article about the Swedish forestry and biodiversity Up next is to work on a campaign about forest protection for increased forest quality. As there is a difference between forest for forestry and natural forest. If you want to get involved to represent an organisation or as a private person, please reach out to Oliwer Schultz. We transport your large furniture for FREE! LiU Student Secondhand is offering free transportation for students to move furniture that are too big to be carried to the shop at Campus Valla by yourself or to a potential buyer. If you have furniture that you want to hand in or sell, contact us by filling out this form to give us some information about the item and its condition. We will then review it and contact you with more information. Easy, right? It is a test run with pick up dates on Saturday May 30th and June 10th, make sure to attend the Facebook event Free Transportation Day to not miss a thing. Hurry up and fill out the form and don't miss the opportunity to give your furniture a new life! Happy belated Biodiversity Day! "The biological diversity shall not be forgotten, but should be the compass which shows the way for all environmental measures. Only then can we succeed in environmental sustainability and reach the goals for Agenda 2030." The Biodiversity Day was May 22nd and to acknowledge this, Navitas have together with many other student- and youth associations in Sweden made a debate article about what society and the politicians should do for our biological diversity. Read the article here (as of yet only in Swedish, unfortunately) and appreciate all the sprouting trees and flowers, insects and the returning birds. All of them are important for our common well-being. Våren är kommen och snart rullar Navitas ner till Amsterdam och Bryssel för att bland annat besöka EU-parlamentet. Den 9 april är det dags för årsmöte och då kommer vi välja in den nya styrelsen, spännande!
I april kommer vi även lansera Plattformen, vilket kommer att vara en knytpunkt för hållbarhetsintresserade studenter som vill driva projekt. Syftet med plattformen är att:
Kommande evenemang CSR med Nira Dynamics Lunchföreläsningen kommer att handla om Nira Dynamics hållbarhetsarbete med fokus på de globala målen och Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Nira Dynamics är ett företag som utvecklar mjukvara som förbättrar säkerheten, prestandan och komforten i moderna fordon samt gör dem mer kostnadseffektiva utan att lägga till hårdvara. Nira arbetar ständigt med att utmana gränserna för teknologi för att leverera effektiva och värdeskapande tjänster till den globala bilindustrin. Det kommer även bjudas på vegansk mat! I veckan på det extra insatta årsmötet röstades propositionen igenom att dela på posten kassör/vice ordförande. Igår hade Gustav Johansson, som äger Sveriges största veganska blogg "Jävligt gott"" lunchföreläsning och vi är fyllda med matinspiration! Kommande Evenemang Lunchföreläsning om klimatångest med Psykologisation Hur påverkas ditt liv av ångest inför klimatförändringarna? Navitas och Psykologisation i samarbete med Ebbepark bjuder in till lunchföreläsning om klimatångest. Om hur den kan uttrycka sig i ditt liv och hur du kan göra för att hantera den. Det kommer bjudas på indiskt ris med rostad blomkål och mangoyoghurt från Zenit. Datum: 7 mars Tid och plats: 12.15 i A1 Vattenkraft - med tveeggad miljönytta in i framtiden! Under lunchföreläsningen beskrivs Tekniska verkens arbete med vattenkraft, både regionalt och nationellt. Konkreta åtgärder och projekt för att den biologiska mångfalden beskrivs, både hur vi nått dit vi är idag och vad vi planerar för att nå ännu längre i framtiden. Det bjuds på mat! Datum: 11 mars Tid och plats: 12:15 i C2 Earth Hour: Lunchföreläsning med Rebecka Le Moine Rebecka Le Moine kommer ha en lunchföreläsning i samband med Earth Hour. Hon kommer att prata om biologisk mångfald och dess betydelse för vårt liv på jorden. Datum: 25 mars Tid och plats: 12:15 i C3 Håll utkik på vår Facebooksida för mer information om evenemangen! Nytt år och ny termin! I samband med tekfak:s tentaperiod och julledighet skickades inget nyhetsbrev ut för januari. Sen senast har vi i Navitas i samband med vår insamling till Musikhjälpen lyckats samla in 4075 kr till förmån av allas rätt att fungera olika. Stort tack till alla som var med och bidrog! Under december och januari har nätverksutskottet arbetat med att ta fram nomineringar till årets Miljöpris. Miljöprisutdelningen kommer att ske onsdagen den 30 januari. Under föreläsningen beskriver Johan och Teresia (tidigare studenter på Liu) Tekniska Verkens klimatpåverkan, både hur de har nått dit de är idag och vad de planerar för att nå ännu längre in i framtiden. De diskuterar även hur Linköpings klimatmål är utformat och varför “hellre ungefär rätt än exakt fel” är ett viktigt uttryck i ämnet klimatmål och klimatvärdering av åtgärder.
